Only a week after Pride, and LGBTI+ rights are still in the headlines!
This week the Brazilian state governor and presidential candidate Eduardo Leite came out as gay, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights ruled landmark judgment, and the United States Supreme Court let a ruling stand against a flower shop that rejected a same-sex wedding.
However, Pride also brought backlash as journalists were attacked in Georgia at an anti-LGBT protest, a rainbow flag was burned and marchers were assaulted at a Zagreb gay pride march in Croatia, Namibian athletes were barred from the 400m Olympic event due to "too high" natural testosterone levels, and Hungary's Orbán said Euro leaders slamming no-promo-homo law were behaving like "colonialists".
Every week, we are presented with new challenges and a direct call to action as we continue to fight for our basic human rights and sprint down the path towards freedom!
Global Queer News is an initiative of The Global Center’s Media Unit. Each week, we gather the top queer stories from around the world and synthesize them for your knowledge and action.
