State of the World…

This week was incredibly active in LGBTI+ rights!

Bhutan decriminalized gay sex (!), the European Parliament voted to make the entire European Union an LGBT freedom zone, a Japanese court said that not allowing same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, Britain committed to banning conversion therapy, Canada's Quebec province will appeal part of the ruling against Civil Code gender-change requirements, and Amazon banned books that frame LGBTQ+ identity as a mental illness.

However, all of these great victories came with setbacks. Poland will ban gays from adopting, the Vatican decreed that the Catholic Church cannot bless same-sex unions, and numerous states in the United States are on the warpath against trans rights: South Dakota enacted a license to discriminate, Mississippi banned trans people in school sports, and Tennessee let students refuse to share bathrooms with transgender peers.

These disgusting acts are met with our continued courage and bravery! In the midst of the horrendous attacks on Asian Americans in the United States this week, we are reminded that intersectionality is the imperative foundation to our work - we survive and flourish together. Stay healthy and happy!
