State of the World…

Let’s start this recap with something positive: penguins!

LGBT fabric

Australia's gay penguin power couple adopted their second chick this week. Great news in India too as the government launched a simplified certification process to provide identity cards and special homes for transgender people in every state. Germany decided to provide compensation to gay service people who experienced discrimination in the military before a change of policy twenty years ago.

With growing tension of the pandemic and protests, Hungary has ramped up anti-LGBTQ legislation by proposing a constitutional amendment that would ban adoption by gay couples and stigmatize transgender children. Additionally in Eastern Europe, the Brussels and Wallonia regions of Belgium closed their offices of representation in Poland's capital over what they say is the government's threat to judicial and media independence and anti-gay discrimination.

Unfortunately, tensions have also escalated in Thailand as the Prime Minister stated that all laws will be used against protesters, knowing that many of the protests have featured numerous LGBT activists front and center. Lastly, an appeals court in the United States has voided south Florida’s bans on conversion therapy for children, leaving us to question what the purpose of law is if it justifies torturing children.

From penguins to protests, our fight marches on with a renewed sense of community as we go into the holiday season. We wish you prosperity and health as you bravely open yourself to the path ahead!
