The Power of Queer Youth!
Building Bridges Across Child Rights and Queer Rights Movements
On November 12, 2024, passionate queer youth leaders and child rights advocates gathered in Cape Town, South Africa, for an impactful session exploring the power of cross-movement collaboration. This event facilitated vital conversations on the barriers, needs, directions, and opportunities at the intersections of LGBTQI+ rights, children’s rights, and global development. Together, attendees engaged in knowledge-sharing, network-building, and strategy-setting, all focused on countering anti-gender narratives and attacks on LGBTQI+ children and youth.
The session also featured powerful discussions, including a fireside chat with queer youth leaders, breakout sessions on barriers and solutions, and collaborative mapping of next steps forward. Attendees explored the role that major child rights organizations, such as Save the Children, can play in supporting queer youth advocacy through sustained partnerships and shared resources. This unique event set the stage for lasting change, bringing queer youth movements and child rights movements together for a better future.
