State of the World…

LGBTI+ people encountered so much joy this week, while also facing desperate situations.

Mexico's Yucatán passed marriage equality, a Taiwan-Macau gay couple wed after a landmark legal win, a poll showed that voters in Switzerland will approve marriage equality in an upcoming referendum, and the United States included SOGI-related questions in the census for the first time but it found that LGBT adults are more likely to report food and economic insecurity.

In line with this, the reality in Afghanistan is grave for LGBTI+ people, Romanian politicians tried to push anti-LGBTQ legislation after inspiration by Hungary and Poland in the region, Apple deleted the Hornet app from Turkey's iOS App Store, and an LGBT march in Gdańsk and Częstochowa Poland occurred under heavy police security.

While many contexts are taking progressive steps, the situation is life or death in others. It’s a critical time for us all to engage and fight alongside our community to ensure all LGBTI+ people throughout the world live safe, healthy, and flourishing lives.
