State of the World…

This week was marred by violence and state-sponsored discrimination for LGBTI+ people around the world!

In the United States, the Senate confirmed the first open lesbian to serve on a federal appeals court, New York City elected a record of six out City Council members, and the governor of Texas joined a pushback campaign to investigate books on race, gender identity, and sexual orientation in public schools.

The wave of hate continued in other countries too as extremists ransacked the LGBTI community center in Bulgaria, Poland continues to cast LGBTI+ people as enemies, the Taliban in Afghanistan stated that LGBT rights will not be respected under Islamic law, and hackers leaked life-threatening data from an Israeli LGBT dating app.

We must stand up and stand united against this violence! Safety is the foundation to joy and freedom - and we stand with you in the week ahead!

Note: A special thank you to Rex Wockner for compiling Int'l LGBTQI news.
