State of the World…

We saw major progress in LGBTI+ rights this week!

The first player in Australia’s top-flight men's soccer competition came out, Whitehorse, Canada elected the city's first Indigenous councillor in a generation and the first openly gay mayor, and the United States State Department issued its first passport with X gender marker.

In marriage equality news, the Delhi High Court in India is fixed for the final hearing pleas to recognize same-sex marriage under the law, a marriage equality bill was introduced in Peru, and the state of Sonora in Mexico celebrated its first equal marriage.

Unfortunately, these positive developments coexist with terrible news from Italy as the LGBTQ+ hate crime bill was defeated. This demonstrates our need to educate and advocate everyday for LGBTI+ rights to ensure all people have the opportunity to live with freedom and dignity.

Note: A special thank you to Rex Wockner for compiling Int'l LGBTQI news.
