State of the World…
The illusion that LGBTI+ rights are getting better over time is once again shattered this week as we face new demonstrations of backlash purposefully attacking our human rights.
First, LGBT Afghans brace for an uncertain future in the now Taliban-run country, attempting to flee from persecution. Europe is in a state of disunity whose lack of trust can imperil the continent's future, especially in the face of Poland, Hungary, and now Romania’s active denial of LGBTI+ people.
The Australian government voted down workplace protections for trans and intersex people, yet sexual orientation remains protected. OutRight, Citizen Lab and OONI have exposed the censorship of LGBTIQ websites in a new report. Lastly, 20 states in the United States sue over the Biden administration's LGBT protections.
This intense backlash reminds our community that we must stand united together through intersectionality to combat these active forms of oppression that lead to denial and erasure. We must continue to fight to ensure that all LGBTI+ people throughout the world can experience freedom!
